Third phase of two days Capacity Building Program on "Technology demonstrations for enhancing resilience" which is scheduled during 22-23, August 2022 was inaugurated on 22-08-2022 and has been organized by Technology Demonstration Component of NICRA at ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. S.K. Chaudhari, DDG (NRM), ICAR. Dr. V.K. Singh Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG (Agronomy, Agroforestry and Climate Change),.Dr. JVNS Prasad, Programme Leader, TDC-NICRA, Dr. Sumanta Kundu, Scientist, ICAR-CRIDA,scientists from ICAR-CRIDA, Senior Scientist and Head of 58 NICRA KVKs, NICRA Co-PIs and SRFs of respective KVKs were present in the session.
At the beginning Dr. VK Singh, Director, CRIDA welcomed the guest with a floral bouquet. Dr. JVNS Prasad welcomed the participants explained the objectives of capacity building program. This capacity building program was aimed for total 58 KVKs (25 old and 33 new) covering the North-East India (ATARI Guhawathi, Barapani, Ludhiana and Kolkota) and he addressed the climate vulnerability. He said Farming system typology (FST)-based study, quantification of impact of resilient practices, contingency plans, agro advisories etc will be covered in this program.
Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA said that through these programme participants will learn about how to characterize a village, farming system, different types of typologies like rainfed with or without livestock, different climate technologies for different vulnerabilities, seed bank, fodder bank in a practical way. He also asked the participants to do on line practice on data collection formats, analysis and reports generation. He said during this program new KVKs will get knowledge and experiences from old KVKs.
He appreciated the work in Kullu region for developing a low chilling variety to make a productivity higher and also appreciated Kuch Bihar, KVK for getting OSIRS award. He said, major accomplishment was KVKs submitted 25 videos for copy right and out of that got 15 copyright certificates. He stressed to document the work done and knowledge and apply for copyrights.
Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG, Agroforestry said that the main objective of third phase is assessing the risk of Indian agriculture scientifically "the districts for climate risk" and he emphasized on demonstrations in the village should in a functional mode. He asked to make One front ICAR-NICRA, TDC village by building a climate resilience and establishing fodder production system, seed production system should in a functional mode. He said that climate resilience varieties should bring into TDC Villages, demonstrate and document and how to refine a locally available technology. He said fodder is important and different varieties are available. So he asked to spread under this NICRA-TDC.
Dr. S.K. Chaudhari, DDG (NRM), said that during this programme participants will learn how to collect the basic information in households and in future how to implement the programme, guidelines for Village Climate Risk Management Committee, custom hiring centre, seed bank, fodder bank in practical way. Dr. S.K. Chaudhari in his remarks said that KVKs are the backbone of the country's agricultural system and praised the KVKs for their excellent ground level work and asked to provide the futuristic solution for the climate challenge. He said in International forum like FAO, BRICS also cited about NICRA-TTDC achievements. He appreciated CRB programme which was implemented in Ludhiana, ATARI. He stressed to learn from past experience and plan for feature climatic interventions and provide the futuristic solution for the climate challenge.
