National Workshop on Assessment of Gender-responsiveness of Climate Adaptation Technologies Conducted at ICAR-CRIDA


A one-day national workshop on “Assessment of Gender-responsiveness of Climate Adaptation Technologies” was conducted at ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad on 18th March 2025. The workshop was organized as part of the project “Atlas of Climate Adaptation in South Asian Agriculture” (ACASA), a collaborative project between BISA-CIMMYT and ICAR. The goal of the project is to make available to the stakeholder’s information on adaptation options along with their feasibility for implementation.

The workshop's objectives were to evaluate the major adaptation technologies for their gender implications for different dimensions and to assess the relative importance of different adoption-enabling factors for men and women.

Total 40 members including representatives from national and international research organizations, NGOs and other stakeholders different parts of the country attended the workshop.

In the inaugural session, Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, welcomed the experts and underlined the importance of including gender responsiveness in the projects such as ACASA. Dr PK Aggarwal, Regional Program Leader, BISA-CIMMYT provided an overview of the ACASA project.

Prof. Indira Devi, Emeritus Professor, KAU briefed on various aspects of climate adaptation and gender.

Dr. Prasun Gangopadhyay, from BISA-CIMMYT and Dr. Arti Bhatia, ICAR-IARI introduced the draft version of the ACASA atlas and its various features to the participants.

Dr C.A. Rama Rao, Project Lead from India and Principal Scientist, ICAR-CRIDA briefed the purpose and expectations of the workshop.

Dr. C. Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad was the chief guest during the inaugural function appreciated in conducting this type workshop and stressed to catch the gender responsiveness with Climate Adaptation Technologies.

After Inaugural function the technical sessions started with the presentation by Dr Kaushik Bora from BISA-CIMMYT on gender framework in ACASA.

It was followed by two parallel sessions, one for crop technolgies and the other for livestock technologies. in which the participants evaluated adaptation technologies in the formats designed for the purpose . In the post-lunch session, factors enabling the adoption of Group Photo with participants adaptation technologies were discussed. In the concluding session, the reports from the crop as well as livestock groups were presented.

Dr. V.K. Singh in his concluding remarks stressed the need for more sensitization regarding the gender aspects of technology adoption by women farmers.

The program ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr BMK Raju, ICAR-CRIDA.
