One day workshop on Promotion of Climate Resilient Crops/Varieties/Seeds(Climate Resilient/Smart Agriculture)was organized on 23-04-2024 at ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad.
The guest of honour present for the workshop were Dr. B. Neeraja Prabhakar, Vice-Chancellor, SKLTSHU, Mulugu, Dr.C. Tara Satyavathi, Hyderabad, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad Dr. Shaik N. Meera, Director, ATARI Zone-x , Hyderabad, Shri Krupa Shankar, State Marketing Manager, IFFCO, Hyderabad, Mrs.Swati Tiwari,DGM, NABARD, Hyderabad. The workshop started with lightning of lamp. Scientists and staff from CRIDA and from local ICAR institutes attended the workshop.
Dr. V. K Singh, Director, CRIDA in his welcome address highlighted bout the contribution made by CRIDA in dryland research and stressed the need for promotion of climate resilient crops and varieties for sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Neeraja Prabhakar, Vice-Chancellor, SKLTSHU emphasized to meet the food security by developing and providing climate resilient varieties and to concentrate on secondary agriculture and to obtain nutrient security. She mentioned that not only high production but also production with quality should also increase. The impacts of climate change are already being experienced by us and hope that the presentations emanated from this workshop will give directions towards attaining climate resilient agriculture.
Dr. C. Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR-IIMR highlighted the importance of millets and promotional activities to create awareness about millets. She stressed to use new methodologies in extension to share the knowledge about use of Climate Resilient Crops/Varieties.
Dr. Shaik N. Meera, Director, ATARI Zone-x appreciated the work of ICAR-CRIDA and also highlighted the success stories of the work done under NICRA-TDC and also told that assessment of local climate is important and highlighted about importance of secondary agriculture.
Shri Krupa Shankar, State Marketing Manager, IFFCO highlighted the use of Nano urea and usage of drone technology for Climate Resilient/Smart Agriculture.
Mrs.Swati Tiwari,DGM, NABARD Highlighted about extreme weather events are on the rise, causing greater threat to food security and suggested to have interdisciplinary coordination at national and international level to tackle disasters
After inauguration 6 lectures held viz., drought management for weather aberrations by Dr.K.V.Rao, Principal Scientist and Head DRM, Climate change research infrastructure for developing resilient crop varieties by Dr. M. Prabhakar, Principal Scientist & PI-NICRA, Resilient crops and seed systems by Dr. Basudeb. Sarkar, Principal Scientist, Climate resilient farm mechanization options for rainfed ecosystems by Dr. I. Srinivas, Insights of technological approaches for climate smart agriculture by Dr. Ravi Shankar, Principal Scientist and building resilience to climate change, Livestock perspective by Dr. D.B.V. Ramana, Principal Scientist & SIC, GRF.
The lectures followed by panel discussion on Bringing Resilient Agri Food Systems during Vikasit Bharath, in which the member of the panel clarified the doubts and explored the possibilities of Promotion of Climate Resilient Crops/Varieties/Seeds .The function ended with the formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr .Chandrakant,M.H.Senior Scientist and Head KVK-Ranga Reddy,Hyderabad.
