On the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’, the NSS unit of Hyderabad hub, IARI-Mega varsity, ICAR-CRIDA organized plantation activity for UG students and faculty at Hayathnagar Research Farm (HRF), ICAR- CRIDA, Hyderabad.
Dr..Manoranjan Kumar, Principal Scientist (Soil &Water Conservation &Engg) and Nodal officer of NSS Unit, CRIDA Welcomed all the participants and stressed the need for lifestyle orientation in harmony with the nature to prevent the degradation of environment and given a slogan “Let’s plant the seed of change today for a sustainable tomorrow”
Dr. M S Rao, Head (Division of Crop Science) and Director-in-charge highlighted theme of this year Environment Day like land restoration, stopping desertification and building drought resilience. He also emphasised the importance of the Environment, necessary steps to be taken for its conservation and protection. Dr. M S Rao, inaugurated the plantation activity and given a slogan “act now and save the future-make the Earth green again”.
Later, the students and faculty planted more than 50 tree saplings at Hayathnagar Research Farm, CRIDA, Hyderabad. The academic coordinator (UGs) Dr. Nagasree K and In-charge HRF, Dr I Srinivas also joined in plantation activity along with scientist, faculty and students from different divisions.
Finally, the program ended with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Timmanna Course Coordinator of the NSS program. He concluded that the environment is becoming extreme day by day as a result of pollution and global warming. It is high time for every individual to take responsibility for safeguarding the environment and awareness on planting trees.
