ICAR-Sponsored Winter School on Rainfed Organic Farming Systems Concludes at ICAR–CRIDA, Hyderabad


The 21-day ICAR-sponsored Winter School on “Recent Developments in Rainfed Organic Farming Systems” concluded successfully today at the ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (ICAR–CRIDA), Hyderabad. The programme, conducted from 28 January to 17 February 2026, marked the culmination of an intensive capacity-building aimed at strengthening professional competencies in sustainable organic farming practices for rainfed and dryland regions.

The valedictory programme was graced by Prof. Arun Tiwari, Former Scientist, DRDO, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Tiwari emphasized the AI enabled organic farming systems in India to address the growing challenges of land degradation, climate variability and resource scarcity in rainfed ecosystems. He congratulated the participants and encouraged them to apply the knowledge gained for promoting sustainable organic agriculture in their respective regions.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome and overview by Dr. K.A. Gopinath, Course Director, who highlighted the learnings and outcomes of the 21-day winter school. The programme featured expert lectures, interactive discussions, practical sessions and field-oriented learning modules delivered by eminent scientists and specialists.

Dr. V. K. Singh, Director, ICAR–CRIDA, in his remarks, appreciated the active participation and enthusiasm of the trainees throughout the programme. He underscored the critical role of organic farming in enhancing soil health, improving nutrient cycling, strengthening ecosystem resilience and ensuring long-term sustainability of dryland agriculture under changing climatic conditions.

During the valedictory session, participants shared their feedback and reflections underscoring the relevance and applicability of the training in addressing real-world challenges of rainfed organic production systems. The programme provided an excellent platform for interdisciplinary learning, experience sharing and fostering collaboration among professionals from diverse institutions.
