The ICAR-CRIDA organized a farmer awareness campaign on soil test based balanced nutrient management today i.e., 07-04-2026 at Gaddamallaiahguda village (Model Village Project), Yacharam Mandal, Ranga Reddy district, T.S.
Dr. K. Ravi Shankar, Principal Scientist, Transfer of Technology (TOT) and PI of Model Village project welcomed Sarpanch Mrs. Chinna Jangaiah, Upa Sarpanch Sri. Laxman, Secretary Mrs. Swapna and all the participating farmers (25 males and 10 females). He highlighted the current scenario and importance of balanced use of fertilizers in agriculture. He also explained to the farmers that the village soils have high K while, N and P are low to medium.
Regarding micronutrients, Sulphur is very high, and Zinc and Iron are very low in Gaddamallaiahguda. Dr. V. Girijiaveni, Senior Scientist, Soil Science, appraised farmers about importance of soil testing, avoidance of over application of fertilizers by shifting to organic alternatives that enhance the soil fertility and improve crop productivity.
Also, highlighted about multiple initiatives such as Soil Health Card (SHC) scheme, Soil test based nutrient application, use of compost, vermicompost preparation and biofertilizers use that enable more precise and efficient fertilizer use and maintain soil health with minimal environmental impact.
