Report on the field inspection and monitoring of the Greengram (WGG-42 variety) crop in Aregudem Village, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district

On 21st August 2025, the staff of ICAR-CRIDA- KVK-Rangareddy Shri P. Ramakrishna, Technical Officer, Dr. Gautam Veer Chauhan, SMS (Aronomy) along with the seed certification officer from Telangana Seed & Organic Certification Authority (TGSOCA), Government of Telangana, inspected the field of farmer Smt. K. Yellamma and monitored the Green (WGG-42) crop at Areudem Village, Mothkur Mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the Greengram (WGG42) field for certification under TGSOCA certification standards. The evaluation focused on verifying compliance with the certification requirements, including farming practices, crop health, input usage, and overall field management.

Shri. P. Ramakrishna, Technical Office, advised the farmer that if the signs of nutrient deficiency become more severe, nitrogen based fertilizers should be utilized and it is also crucial to continuously monitor pest populations and act promptly to prevent any potential damage also he asked to make sure that irrigation practices are optimized to lessen stress as the plants approach their pod formation stage.

He expressed that the green gram field is healthy and has no major problems. Recommended minor adjustments on fertilizer and pest monitoring can help improve yield. After obtaining the geographic coordinates of the field, Dr. V. Prudhvi Raj, the seed certification officer and Assistant Director of Seed Certification (ADSC) at TGSOCA in Hyderabad, asked the farmer about the field operations performed. He recommended necessary precautionary actions to uphold the genetic purity of the crop. Dr. Gautam instructed the farmer to observe for pests including aphids and pod borers, and to utilize integrated pest management for control which aids in improving both yield and quality.

Afterward, the team visited the Redgram field of his other family members, which was also part of the Seed hub project registration. It was noted that the spacing between the rows in the Redgram was quite wide (2 meters), and given the increased likelihood of weed growth in these open areas, it was advised to carry out timely weeding in the field as they can compete with the crop for essential nutrients and moisture, particularly during the initial growth stages. The farmer received guidance to explore intercultural practices by utilizing either a hoe or a power weeder to efficiently control weeds in the spaces between rows.
