KVK Ranga Reddy ICAR-CRIDA participated in PPVFRA training cum awareness programme


On 28th February 2025, a Training-cum-Awareness Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights (PPVFR) was held at DDS KVK, Medak, organized by ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad, in collaboration with PPVFRA, New Delhi. The event aimed at increasing awareness about the significance of plant variety protection and farmers' rights, especially in the context of conserving traditional varieties. KVK Ranga Reddy district, along with farmers, participated actively in the program. During the event, 11 applications were initiated by farmers to register their traditional varieties under the PPVFR Act. Two farmers from KVK Ranga Reddy, recognized for their efforts in conserving traditional seeds, were felicitated for their contributions to agricultural biodiversity.

Additionally, KVK Ranga Reddy was awarded an Appreciation Certificate for facilitating the registration process for the farmers. The event was graced by dignitaries including Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Chairperson of PPVFRA, Dr. D.K. Agrwal, Registrar of PPVFRA, and Dr. Shaik N. Meera, Director of ICAR-ATARI, along with Dr. A.R. Reddy, Principal Scientist at ICAR-ATARI. The KVK staff, including Dr. Chandrakanth M.H., Senior Scientist cum Head, Sri G. Sri Krishna, SMS (Horticulture), and Dr. Dilip S., SMS (Agriculture Extension), also played a key role in facilitating the event. The programme emphasized the importance of protecting plant varieties, empowering farmers, and promoting the conservation of traditional seeds, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.
