The KVK Team from ICAR-CRIDA, comprised of Shri. P. Ramakrishna, Technical Officer, and Drs. Gautam Veer Chauhan and Dilip S, made a visit to Ekmai village in the Basheerabad Mandal of Vikarabad District on the 3rd June, 2025.
In a notable move to improve sustainable farming practices and assist local farmers, a major seed distribution program was effectively launched as part of the “Model Pulses Village” project sanctioned by Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare; Government of India, New Delhi. The initiative aims to provide high-quality pulse seeds to farmers, boosting crop yields and promoting food security in the region.
In his introductory comments, Shri. P. Ramakrishna, Technical Officer, CRIDA emphasized that, "With this distribution, we are not just providing seeds; we are also equipping the community with the knowledge and resources necessary for more efficient and sustainable pulse cultivation. He mentioned that the ongoing seed distribution initiative is an essential part of the project, guaranteeing that farmers receive the most suitable certified seeds for their specific soil and climate conditions
Dr. S. Dilip, SMS (Agricultural Extension) stated that this project offers extensive support, including training sessions, demonstration plots, and technical assistance to aid farmers in adopting best practices. Furthermore, the initiative is in line with government objectives to enhance pulse production, decrease import reliance, and improve rural livelihoods.
Dr. Gautam V. Chauhan, SMS (Agronomy) asserted that the application of biofertilizers in pulse crops is crucial. The seed distribution program is projected to broaden in the next few years, targeting additional villages to strengthen agricultural resilience and stimulate economic growth.
The officers from the agriculture department of Telangana state, Smt. Anika (MAO) and Mr. Navin (AEO) from Basheerabad Mandal, facilitated the distribution program at Ekmai Rythu Vedika premises. The Young Professionals from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mr. B. Dhanush and Mr. B. Saivardhan also assisted with logistical support and engaged in the distribution program. Later the team distributed certified seeds of Redgram (TDRG-59) to 375 farmers. Former Sarpanch Narayana, along with village leaders P. Srinivas Reddy, Dushyant Reddy, Sai Reddy, Srinivas Goud, Sudarshan, and others, took part in the program.
